He began his medical and scientific career in 1974, working at the neurosurgical clinic of the Research Institute of Neurology of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences under the guidance of the world-famous neurosurgeon Professor E.I. Kandel. He took an active part in the development of microsurgical techniques for the treatment of such vascular diseases of the brain as ruptured aneurysms and vascular malformations, as well as hemorrhagic stroke, which only appeared in the 70s. The Neurosurgical Department of GKB No. 15 is one of the leading medical institutions for the treatment of non-traumatic and intracranial hemorrhages. Under the leadership of A.S. Saribekyan defended 7 PhD theses. He has certificates for four inventions in the field of medicine, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. He is a pioneer in the field of minimally traumatic techniques in our country and has the greatest experience of such operations in Russia and Europe.

Surgical treatment includes: various types of intracranial hemorrhages (ruptures of arterial aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations of the brain, hemorrhagic strokes, spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages), treatment of patients with tumors of the brain and spinal cord, as well as removal of herniated discs by microsurgical discectomy.

Professor Saribekyan, together with the staff of the neurosurgical department, developed original, minimally traumatic methods for removing intracerebral hematomas in patients with hemorrhagic stroke. The techniques involve the removal of hematomas through small holes using local fibrinolysis with puroplasan, as well as the use of endoscopic techniques. In addition, the professor has developed and applies optimized treatment tactics for patients with complicated course of ruptured arterial aneurysms of the brain.

In 1972, he graduated from the Yerevan State Medical Institute with a degree in medicine and has been fruitfully engaged in practical, scientific and teaching activities for more than forty years. For more than twenty years (since 1998), he headed the neurosurgical department of the O.M. Filatov State Clinical Hospital No. 15.

He is the author of 70 publications and two monographs.
