During the intervention, the surgeon uses a microscope to remove the abnormal tissue and covers the corneal defect with a graft made from the patient’s own conjunctiva, significantly reducing the risk of recurrence. The surgery is recommended for patients with active pterygium growth, pronounced eye redness and irritation, or when the tissue encroaches on the cornea, leading to vision deterioration.
