Thoracoscopic lobectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove an affected lung lobe through an incision between the ribs, allowing to extract a malignant tumor or infected area with preservation of healthy lung lobes. The intervention is performed for deeply located lung tumors affecting an entire lobe, large tuberculous lesions, and chronically infected areas that fail to respond to medical therapy. The affected lobe is dissected from the surrounding tissues and removed from the thoracic cavity. The procedure allows to eliminate the infection or tumor, while the remaining lung tissue takes over respiratory function.
