Combined ascending aortic replacement and aortic valve surgery is a single-stage repair of the largest blood vessel and the aortic valve, performed through either a standard or minimally invasive approach. The surgeon replaces the dilated or dissected segment of the aorta with a synthetic graft while simultaneously repairing or replacing the aortic valve which, does not close properly. The surgery is performed for an ascending aortic aneurysm with valvular insufficiency, as treating these conditions separately is ineffective and increases the risk of repeat surgeries. As a result, a functionally competent aortic valve complex is restored, and the risk of aortic rupture is significantly reduced.
