VATS atypical lung resection is a minimally invasive surgical procedure aimed at removing a limited area of lung tissue to obtain a biopsy or extract marginal zone lesions through small punctures in the chest wall. The intervention is performed for benign peripheral tumors, solitary metastases, tuberculomas, and for tissue sampling when malignancy is suspected. The affected lung area gets excised under video guidance using specialized stapling devices that remove the tissue and securely close the surgical site. The procedure allows to make a diagnosis or remove a lesion, followed by rapid recovery and a shorter hospital stay.
