Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty is a procedure on the soft palate and pharynx for widening the airway by excising excess tissue (palatine tonsils, arches, and part of the soft palate). The intervention is indicated for severe snoring and obstructive sleep apnea caused by anatomical narrowing of the pharynx at the level of the soft palate. Under general anesthesia, the surgeon removes excess overgrown tissues that vibrate and collapse during sleep, blocking the airway. The surgery restores free breathing during sleep, eliminates snoring, and normalizes blood oxygen level.
