Intrauterine treatment of sacrococcygeal teratoma is a surgical procedure which includes the occlusion of the tumor-feeding vessels in the fetal coccyx area. The goal is to halt tumor growth and reduce stress on the fetus' heart. The decision to perform the surgery is made by a multidisciplinary team after a thorough assessment of the fetal condition. Critically important parameters include volume-to-fetal weight ratio, the signs of heart failure, edema, and tumor progression. The intervention is recommended between 20 and 28 gestation weeks, when the fetus is sufficiently developed to tolerate the procedure but has not yet reached an age at which progressive hemodynamic disturbances become irreversible.
