Embryo transfer is the final and most critical step of in vitro fertilization (IVF), where a fertilized embryo is placed in the uterus using a thin catheter to achieve pregnancy. The procedure is performed after a brief period of embryo cultivation and is indicated for all patients undergoing IVF treatment. Under ultrasound guidance, the embryologist loads the embryo into a special flexible catheter, and the physician gently inserts it through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity. This is a painless procedure, followed by the implantation waiting period, during which the embryo attaches to the uterine wall and the long-awaited pregnancy begins.
